Film screening: A Sweetness from Nowhere
Welcome to a screening of Ester M. Bergsmark’s new feature film A Sweetness from Nowhere (2026). The film draws on the same material and questions as the exhibition voice under, which was shown at Accelerator in the spring of 2024. With a distinct artistic expression, the film weaves together thoughts and emotions into a story of healing, desire, and transformation.
About the film:
A Sweetness From Nowhere moves through bodies that change, harden, desire, and seek connection. Hormones seep through skin. Jellyfish drift through darkness. Opossums play dead. Marine snow falls slowly towards the bottom.
Out of the experience of violence grows a film that seeks not explanation, but connections. Between human and non-human bodies, between fear and desire, between that which protects us and that which leaves us open to the world.
Following the screening, the director Ester M. Bergsmark will be in conversation with artist Lina Selander. The conversation will be moderated by Accelerator’s curator Therese Kellner. The conversation will be held in Swedish (approximately 30 mins)
Date: 25 november
Time: 6:30
Runtime: 86 min
Place: Accelerators café
Free admission, no registration is required.

About Ester M. Bergsmark
Bergsmark is an artist, filmmaker and artistic researcher working with experimental film, fiction, text and performative screenings. Her work explores desire, memory, touch and bodily spectatorship, opening up film as a sensory language and a poetry of perception. Drawing on trans experiences, Bergsmark investigates how moving images can transform our ways of feeling, perceiving and being in relation to the world.
In 2023, Bergsmark completed a doctorate at Stockholm University of the Arts with the artistic research project voice under, which also took the form of an artist’s book and was presented as a solo exhibition at Accelerator in 2024. Here, film and performative screenings met in an exploration of bodily seeing, transformation and uncertainty.
Her films include Maggie in Wonderland (Maggie vaknar på balkongen, 2008), She Male Snails (Pojktanten, 2012), and Something Must Break (Nånting måste gå sönder, 2014), which won the Tiger Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Bergsmark latest feature film, A Sweetness from Nowhere (2026), premiered at CPH:DOX with its Swedish theatrical release in October of the same year. Ester lives on the outskirts of Stockholm, surrounded by lakes, forests and friends.

Lina Selander is an artist and professor of Art with a focus on narrativity and installation at Konstfack. Her films and installations often stem from historical turning points, exploring relationships between memory and perception, photography and film, or language and image. Selander’s work recurrently returns to a fascination with the phenomena and technologies that have made images possible, enabling history to be documented.
