Artist Signe Johannessen will present the film Swamp Posthumous, a co-production between Accelerator and Cullberg. In the work, Johannessen and Cullberg dancers Agnieszka Sjökvist Dlugoszewska, Eszter Czédulás and Unn Faleide explore a shared interest in hybrid bodies, the rewriting of history and our relationship to animals – those that walk the earth and the magical ones. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the artist, researcher Christina Fredengren and dancers from Cullberg.

Johannessen and the dancers use their own bodies as the point of departure in an investigation of an archaelogical find made in 1949 outside Örebro,  Sweden, of the remains of a middle-aged woman. Researcher Christina Fredengren, Associate Professor at the Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies at Stockholm University, alerted Johannessen to the find, which has puzzled science. Some of the body parts of the middle-aged woman had been replaced by bones from dogs, cows, pigs and horses. With a swamp as her teacher and starting point and in collaboration with the Cullberg dancers, Johannessen has immersed herself in queer and more-than-human perspectives.

Swamp Posthumous is a further development of the work Posthumous Dialogue, which forms part of the exhibition The Experimental Field.

This event is also the launch for Trophy, a collection of new writings made in the light of Signe Johannessens recent work. The book will be available for purchase at the screening. Contributing writers are Axel Andersson, Bronwyn Bailey-Charteris, Ida Benke, Julia Björnberg, Christina Fredengren, Jonathan Habib-Enqvist, Signe Johannessen, Therese Kellner, Caroline Malmström, Kristina Sigunsdotter and Cecilia Åsberg.
