6 September – 20 October
The first exhibition that Accelerator will present in the new art space will be with the artist Tino Sehgal.
Based on studies in political economy and dance, Tino Sehgal has during the past two decades developed an alternative model for art production. Describing his entirely immaterial art as “constructed situations”, he produces work that question the traditional subject-object relationship of visual art. He takes societal modes of behaviour as his artistic material, often generating immersive artworks that are felt more than they are seen. His practice, which focuses on sustainability, questions the need for material resources to create art.
The remnants of his work are impressions, feelings and memories, which does more justice to the experience of the visitor than what any photo or film could capture, as Sehgal’s art is generated in the encounter between the museum visitors and those enacting the work in the exhibition space.
This inaugural presentation springs partly from the context of the university, as many of those participating are researchers at Stockholm University.
Tino Sehgal was born in London in 1976. He currently lives in Berlin.
